The Executive Director of The Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust, Lilly Ajarova, is shining example of the Stumpe Foundation’s mission. As a child growing up in Uganda, she developed a passion & love for wildlife. Upon completion of high school, she attended Makerere University in Uganda where she graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences. She worked briefly as a career advisor at Namasagali College until her passion for wildlife and background in tourism lead her to work at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel. This association served as a springboard for further studies in Austria where after working with the World Trade Centre in Vienna and she obtained a postgraduate diploma in International Tourism Management in 1996. Upon her return home, she began an eight year term with the Uganda Wildlife Authority where she served in various senior management capacities and represented (UWA) in various conferences, workshops, exhibitions and training programs throughout Africa and Europe. In 2005, Lilly had come full circle from her passion and love for wildlife as a teenager. She was hired as the Executive Director of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust and placed in charge of managing the chimpanzee sanctuary at Ngamba Island. In 2009, she was awarded a Responsible Tourism Award at the World Travel Merket exhibition in London and serves on the Steering Committee for Pan African Sanctuary Alliance (PASA).
